Are We “Repairers of the Breach”? The Papacy Abolished the Annual Sabbaths; a Fresh Look

June 8, 2016

Christ is the Word. Dividing the word Sabbath into some that we keep and some we don’t is an unwarranted division of Christ.

The pure woman in Rev 12:1 is standing on the moon. It implies a lunar understanding. God’s calendar is based on the moon. The moon isn’t needed for the 7th day Sabbath, but it is for the annual Sabbaths!

We are supposed to be ‘repairs of the breach’ in God’s law, but law is from torah which includes annual Sabbaths. Torah is in Mal 4:4,5, the context of Elijah. Christ said he will ‘restore all things.’ Matt 17:11

In her last book, Mrs White said “In the time of the end, every divine institution is to be restored.” PK 678. We need to see it for this info…

Sometime we hear arguments that Ellen White didn’t keep the feasts. If pressed, pdfs from her time may support it, but here’s a brief look at the Bible as the basis of faith that she upheld. Our problem is we don’t have a record of the 1888 truths she stood for that were denied.

In every age there is a new development of truth, a message of God to the people of that generation. The old truths are all essential; new truth is not independent of the old, but an unfolding of it…He who rejects or neglects the new does not really possess the old.” COL 127. *If Ellen White spelled it all out, it would violate her statement that in our age there’s new truth.2T 692,3

At the commencement of the time of trouble we were filled with the Holy Ghost as we went forth and proclaimed the Sabbath more fully.” Early Writings, 33. It’s like statutes, judgments and sabbathS (plural in context of statutes) Ezek 20:11-24

Testimonies to Ministers suggests our need of open, candid consideration.

If a brother is teaching error, those who are in responsible positions ought to know it; and if he is teaching truth, they ought to take their stand at his side. We should all know what is being taught among us, for if it is truth, we need to know it.”TM 110 where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty,”2Cor3:17

A Fresh Look at Biblical Support for the Annual Sabbaths

#1. All Scripture is given by Inspiration…and is profitable” 2Tim 3:16. This includes annual Sabbaths abolished by the papacy that “were designed to teach the people that at the time appointed One would come to whom those ceremonies pointed.” Christ’s Object Lessons, 34.

#2. We don’t have to do Jewish ceremonies—we got rid of them for the 7th day Sabbaths, why not for the annual Sabbaths that were mo’ed—appointed times from Gen 1:14—before any sin or Jews. Also mo’ed in Lev 23:44 where God also calls them “My feasts” in Lev 23:2. And “forever” Lev 23:14,21,31,41. Did God forget they would be nailed to the cross? Paul didn’t think so.

#3. Why did Paul keep those feasts with Greek believers? Acts 20:6; 1Cor 5:8 He said, “Follow me as I follow Christ.” 1Cor 11:1. He warned the Galatians “Ye observe days, and months and times and years. I am afraid of you.” The Greek word for observe means to the minutest detail. In their effort to earn salvation by the works of the law (impossible) Galatians became hairsplitters, debating the details, rather than simply enjoying the spirit of the occasion.

#4. The Jerusalem Council is cited by Christians as ending the law of Moses, but we overlook the context. “For Moses has in every city them that preach him in the synagogues every Sabbath ” Acts 15:21. They would learn it…

#5. Wording by translators from a Catholic background in Col 2:17 sounds like those times are just shadows, but the body or substance is Christ as if shadows are unimportant until we see they are shadows of impending events and “is” is a supplied word that changes the meaning. It might otherwise read, Don’t let anyone judge how you keep them, the body of Christ (local churchcan decide how to do so. Mrs. White implies communion “in its place

#6. “the types which relate to the second advent must be fulfilled at the time pointed out in the symbolic service.” GC 399.9 Christ’s wedding parables all have Passover imagery when God “executed judgment” and there was a midnight cry, Exod 12:10-12,29 also shows they were to be awake. “Watch” is the word. Each time Christ said it, [gregoreo] a link to Passover can be shown. Since watch means be awake, it would be unfair for Christ to ask us (we can’t be awake every night) but Passover was the only time it was required. If we’re watching and ‘open to Him’ when He knocks, ‘He will make [us] ruler over all that He has,” but “beaten with many stripes if we fail to prepare” Lk 12:36,44

#7. “You don’t know the day or hour” but eido means to be aware, understand. Each time Christ said it, He gave an example that fit a provision in the law for Passover a month later, “as the days of Noah” or “like a man traveling to a far country.” Matt 25:13,14; Num 9:10,11. *9T 92-95 cites Zeph 1:8—Passover!
