Our catholic sabbath school lesson
The word catholic means universal, and when not capitalized, does not denote Roman Catholic, but our Sunday SS lesson has a reference to the “Christian” rosary. Why? The rosary is Catholic, and Christ is not honored by “vain repetitions” of the Rosary, Matthew 6:7. And how would we expect answers from dead saints? “The living know that they shall die, but the dead know not anything.” Ecclesiastes 9:5.
How has Rome managed to influence Adventism in such a “creeping compromise”? Are we permeated by Jesuits as some believe? Are we still in the “harlot” condition that Ellen White diagnosed in Testimonies for the Church, Vol 8, p 250?
Not including vital truth relevant to the SS discussion may be as much a failure as including the “Christian” rosary. The lesson quarterly, also on Sunday, says To speak about the law written on the heart means that the law is not just an external set of rules imposed on us. The law should penetrate our motivations, our secret intentions, and so be part of our intimate self.
If Christ were to come today, we would not be ready to live sinlessly in heaven. We must have the New Covenant Promise fulfilled to us before He comes in the sky. And yes, before He comes in the sky, He will come as Bridegroom and we can marry Him with a covenant as Israel did, and He will write it in our hearts as He promises in Jeremiah 31. The last phrase of Jeremiah 30, “latter day,” and the first phrase of Jeremiah 31, “at the same time,” support this as an end-time promise for the final generation.
But there’s a problem. We have overlooked or ignored the context that Ellen White saw as she titled her last book, “The Captivity and Restoration of Israel.” Leaders who didn’t believe her message changed her title to Prophets & Kings and we miss her message that she carefully worded to avoid editing, here..
“That which God purposed to do for the world through Israel, the chosen nation, He will finally accomplish through His church on earth today. He has “let out His vineyard unto other husbandmen,” even to His covenant-keeping people…and to them will be fulfilled all the covenant promises made by Jehovah to His ancient people.” PK 713, 714.
The point is, Ellen White’s last title supports God’s people as returning to the land of the covenant, especially if “all the covenant promises” will be fulfilled to them. And this is precisely the context of the New Covenant Promise: “I will bring them from the north [Babylon, Ezek 26:7] country, and gather them from the ends of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, the woman with child…A great throng shall return there…‘He who scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him as a shepherd does his flock… they shall come back from the land of the enemy….your children shall come back to their own border.” These verses are the context for the New Covenant Promise in the same chapter: Jer 31:8,10,16,17,31.
We may have laughed at Israel’s fear of giants in the Promised Land, but nobody is laughing now as we see giant problems with God’s promise: “ if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” [of land] Galatians 3:29; Genesis 15:18.
This is a perfect answer for when no one can buy or sell or hide, especially in the US. What did God mean when He said, “ I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews [we keep the Sabbath] and are not [don’t want to go the the land of the covenant when a New World Order says that’s the only place for Sabbath-keepers]. Rev 3:9. It can be an ark of safety as God promises to defend us (Exodus 34:10,11). This will test our faith. It also fits Mrs White’s Duty in View of the Time of Trouble Can we see a time of trouble coming? If so, we have a duty—please read about it in Early Writings, p 56-58. (click the link)
It is time that we look deeper into themes related to the wedding parables—we marry Christ by making a covenant but we are asleep with our lights out, Matt 25:5. The king sends his servants to be other to the wedding, but they are scorned and ridiculed like this message may be when we understand the marriage involves the covenant that includes the land for Abraham’s seed and the land is also married (that’s the meaning of Beulah land, Isaiah 62:4). Those who don’t go will face death. We will need prompt obedience.
Proverbs says a prudent man foresees trouble and hides himself. Not to consider the above is vain talk. Sabbath school should be a place for open discussion that can rouse the sleeping saints before it’s too late…
